Colourful-couple-in-Latin-America

Latin America is a region full of bucket list musts experiences. Think breathtaking beaches, the next level clubs of Cancun, swimming in the sparkling Cenotes and hiking volcanoes…

Swim in a Cenote

Cenotes are natural sinkholes and underwater caverns hidden away in magical spots surrounded by nature. Swimming in water that is crystal clear and the most amazing turquoise colour that sparkles in the sunlight, with reeds hanging down from the cave walls and hidden areas to explore….need I say more?

Check out Chichen Itza

A visit to the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza will literally blow your mind. These iconic ruins were created by the Mayan civilisations in 600 A.D and are now one of the New Wonders of the World. It is well worth the trip here to learn amazing facts on the history and religious purposes of the site….and to get that Insta worthy temple shot.

Live it up at Coco Bongo

If you think you’ve seen one nightclub you’ve seen them all – think again. I have truly never experienced anything like Coco Bongo in my life, so if you only get to go to one nightclub in Cancun make sure it’s this one! Half the time you’ll be dancing and waving giant balloon sticks around while confetti guns go off over your head; and the other half you’ll have your jaw to the floor watching epic live performances with incredible costumes, themes and acrobatics.

Explore breathtaking beaches

Mexico boasts some pretty spectacular beaches and you’re sure to find many of these envy-inducing beauties in the Yucatan Peninsula; however the Ruins of Tulum are definitely not one to be missed. Spend a day exploring the ancient ruins that are crumbling atop a cliff face that overlooks a hidden beach with ombre blue water and sand as white as your pre-Mexico tan.

Stay in a Jungle Lodge

Do yourself a favour and spend a night in the middle of the jungle in Guatemala and fall asleep to the sound of Howler monkeys. An early rise the next morning is well worth it to trek through the jungle and burn off some of those tacos as you climb the trillion steps up ancient Mayan pyramids to sit at the top and take in the view.

Go slow in Caye Caulker

Reggae music, sunset sails and rum punch await you in the stunning little island of Caye Caulker, Belize. With palm trees and hammocks galore, and the laidback friendly manner of the locals, you’ll soon see why the motto here is ‘go slow’. If you’re a thrill seeker like me, a snorkelling trip that gets you jumping in water teeming with sharks and stingrays is the way to go.

Hike a volcano

What’s better than viewing volcanos? Climbing one. I’m not going to lie; hiking up Pacaya had me wishing I chose the ‘ride a horse’ option I thought was just for oldies and not the young and fit. Joke was on me I guess!

Don’t worry, you get to stop for a sugar hit when roasting marshmallows in the thermal surfaces…just look out for cheeky stray dogs who like to steal them when you’re too busy trying to get a photo for the ‘gram. Guilty.
