If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience, this hanging restaurant should do just the trick. Situated several hundred feet above the ground against the Cliffside of Xiling Mountain along the Yangtze River, this traditionally Chinese restaurant sure isn’t for the faint hearted.

Fangweng Restaurant may not look like anything special from the entrance’s grey brick walls, but brace yourself as you’re in for one hell of a walk to your dinner table. The natural cave lobby is followed by a 30-meter-long plank road built along the Cliffside which may just feel a little too rustic to be walking along. From here you enter the Bat Cave, where you’ll find the majority of the seating, or for an extra surreal dining experience, why not opt to dine in the part of the restaurant which hangs out of the cave, taking in the epic surroundings and watching the river run by beneath you.

Expect some pretty incredible views as you chow down yummy Chinese dishes. If the spicy, flavoursome food doesn’t have you breaking out in a sweat, the several hundred ft. drop down the cliff face certainly will. The amalgamation of local specialities and Hubei cuisine is a menu full of freshwater fish, duck and pork, all covered with vegetables and spiced sauces. And for entertainment? A live bungee jump which takes place just across the river is sure to keep your heart rate rising.
To really enjoy this experience to the max, we suggest visiting in early lunch hours when the restaurant isn’t so busy and the views are at their best.
