TRAVEL IN BANGKOK

From its stunning palaces and temples to its weird-and-whacky museums and attractions, there’s nowhere better to get a taste for Southeast Asia than bustling Bangkok. The Thai capital city is jam-packed with history, culture and plenty of good vibes, so whether you’re here for the culture or just the good times, every visitor will find something they love in this vivacious city.

Begin your trip by diving into Thailand’s rich history and culture. Spend hours getting lost in the amazing Grand Palace, which has been home to Thailand’s royal family for almost 300 years. Marvel at the amazing architecture of its living quarters and pagodas, including Wat Phra Kaeo, the home of the famous Jade Buddha. Once you’ve soaked up the stories of the Thai royal family, walk down to Wat Pho to discover the 46-metre reclining Buddha. This incredible temple complex is littered with heaps of stupas, so you’ll be keen to snap a shot here for the ‘gram.

If you’re keen to uncover the weird-and-whacky side of this colourful city, check out the Siriraj Medical Museum. This infamous museum is stuffed with everything from human testicles affected by elephantiasis to the bodies of serial killers. If you aren’t afraid of ghost, climb up the abandoned Sathorn Unique Tower for breath-taking views of the city – just watch out for some unsavoury characters. Oh, and don’t put your foot through a pot hole.

Aside from its many sights, Bangkok travel is also about exploring the Thai culinary scene. From its fragrant restaurants to its energetic street stalls, try everything this delicious city has to offer. Chow down on tom yum goong, kai kon pu and all of the post-partying pad thai you can stomach. If you’re game, you might also want to try a fried scorpion or cockroach from one of the vendors on Khao San Road.

With so much to see and taste, you’ll never be caught out for what to do in Bangkok, Thailand. Dive deep into this surprising city with Contiki.
