Portugal is great. Don’t believe us? Well this sun soaked country has it’s own annual ‘Seven Wonders of Portugal’ award and if that’s not freakin’ gold we don’t know what is.
The campaign aims to highlight all the largely untapped tourist destinations and experiences (like beaches, landmarks or foodie must-eats) in the country, and 2017’s highlights don’t disappoint. Meet this year’s Seven Wonders, seven gorgeous rural villages in Portugal…
Sistelo
Nestled right in the top corner of Northern Portugal, Sistelo was the winner of the Rural Villages category and its terraced vista is extremely Insta-worthy.
Fajã dos Cubres
The winner in the Seaside Villages category, the village of Cubres is located in a strip of beautiful coastal towns known as The Azores. It’s basically a low-key Amalfi.

Dornes
Dornes in Central Portugal took out the top spot in the Riverside Villages category and if this stunning picture doesn’t tell you why, you need to get your eyes checked.
Piódão
Pronounced something like ‘pio-a-dow’, Piódão was the winner in the Remote Villages category and has been likened to the town out of The Flintstones! We’re not so sure about that, but we can’t argue it’s a very charming outlook.
Castelo Rodrigo
The medieval streets and buildings helped Castelo Rodrigo in Northern Portugal win the Authentic Villages category. With imposing walls and rich history, every history lover will feel at home here.

Monsaraz
The winner of the Monument Villages category, Monsaraz borders Spain and while tiny, it is mighty! A huge picturesque castle looks over the landscape and it’s truly beautiful to watch the sunset here.
