Red Bull has announced the 165 teams that will compete in Red Bull Can You Make It?; an epic week-long race across Europe where they can only use Red Bull as currency. Contiki are the official Travel Partners of the epic event and have their own Wildcard team, made up of three complete strangers from across the globe.
However, one team member is no stranger to New Zealanders and extreme sport fanatics alike; Olympic freestyle skier Anna Willcox.
A bit bummed with how I skied today in the world Cup final here in Silvaplana. But I tweaked my knee in practice and wasn't even going to drop in. So I'm happy my knee is feeling better and I was able to compete. I am so looking forward to what's coming up and to start progressing forward. Thanks everyone for all your support!
“I applied for the Wildcard team on a complete whim as I knew it would be a huge regret if I didn’t,” she says, “this race sums up how I like to live pretty perfectly; winging it is often the most satisfying, nerve racking and amazing way to live life. Bring it on!”
The 23-year-old Auckland local is currently in Slovenia where she is training and competing for the first time in two years following a serious knee injury she received after representing New Zealand in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. This past month she’s been skiing around the world, most recently shredding the slopes in Korea, Canada and Switzerland.
Anna, a part-time university student and ilabb pro-skier, was selected to be in the Contiki Wildcard Team after submitting an application video, which was open to university students around the world. She’ll be joined by two teammates selected from USA and Canada.
The 165 teams will compete in an amazing race type event and be sent to one of the five starting points in Europe: Barcelona, Florence, Berlin, Edinburgh and Prague. Teams must stop at a minimum of six checkpoints before reaching the finish line in Paris, which are spread across 40 European destinations such as Copenhagen, London, Budapest, Geneva, Bordeaux, Vienna, Krakow, Venice and Madrid.
