Music brings incredible meaning to our lives. It holds a certain power over us; it can make us laugh or cry, hype us up or chill us out. It’s hard to imagine a world without music. For many individuals a certain song will hold a special meaning for them.
For me, that is my Contiki day song.
If you’ve ever been on a Contiki or are looking to go on one, you will almost definitely know about the ‘day song’. It’s kind of legendary! Every morning on the coach journey to your new destination, your Trip Manager will crank up the volume and play the day song. But what is the Contiki day song? And just why is it so important?
The Contiki day song is a song that will set the mood for the whole trip. As soon it rings through the speakers in the morning, even if you’re feeling tired (or hungover), its infectious melody will lift your spirits, put you in a cracking mood and most of all claim a special place in your heart.
The Contiki day song will be different depending on your Trip Manager and the continent you’re travelling through, but there’s one key theme that ties them all together – no regrets. The catchy tune has a certain way of reminding you to live your life to the fullest and get ready for the trip of a lifetime.
Every time I listen to my Contiki day song it’s as if I am transported back to my time in Vietnam, sipping steaming hot bowls of pho, cruising along the magical Mekong Delta and strolling (or more like getting lost with my Contiki roomie) along the moonlit streets Hoi An.
Yes, you will learn all the lyrics to your Contiki day song by the end of your trip and you may develop a sort of love/hate relationship with it, but one thing’s for certain – on the last day you will be singing the tune at the top of your lungs whist crying and holding onto your Contiki BFFs. That’s just the way it works!
The Contiki day song truly inspires life long memories of friendship, love, happiness and travel, all of which makes it a real life defining kind of tune. It just wouldn’t be a Contiki trip without the legendary day song, and if you know, you KNOW.
