There are few things more pleasurable in this world than curling up with a good book. How about combining a great read with travel to one of the most iconic cities in the world and a super cool book shop at that? If that sounds right up your alley then you will be head over heels for London’s floating bookshop, Word on the Water.

Right on the Regent Canal, Word on the Water has been bobbing happily and selling a selection of new and pre-loved novels since 2011. It’s hard to miss the 1920s barge style bookshop with its mountain of books and adorable vintage decor. Every nook and cranny of the boat is jam-packed with literary gems and you can even duck inside and curl up in a leather armchair next to a heated stove to devour your latest read on cold days.

Despite the rise of e-readers and audiobooks, Word on the Water has secured a permanent mooring (they used to have to move every fortnight!) and survived a near sinking from flooding, thanks to their unique offering that attracts book lovers from all over the world.

Even if you’re not a die-hard book fan, Word on the Water has something for everyone. The team behind it also run events that include talks from thought leaders on topics like feminism, art, tech and politics. Just be sure to secure tickets to any events early, as they are snapped up fast. During the sunny months you can also catch live bands on the roof of the barge. Everyone from musicians, to open mic performers and poets are welcome here.
