If you’re a sucker for all things second hand, cheaper than your average and with just a hint of 80’s style, you’ll die and go to heaven with the huge range of thrift stores and cosy vintage boutiques Amsterdam has to offer. We know how you love a list, so knock yourself out with 5 of the best vintage stores to visit in Amsterdam…
Episode
One of the bad boys for Amsterdam vintage, Episode is one of the largest vintage clothing stores in the Dam and can be found in the shopping haven that is the De 9 Straatjes (9 streets) area. Boys and girls are both in for a treat here with a huge range of all your standard thrift store wares; think woolly jumpers (for the less than predictable Amsterdam weather), Levis shorts, vintage sports jackets, leather jackets and more. Their costume game is also pretty strong so if you’re visiting around Halloween (or are planning on playing dress up during your travels), squeeze in a visit.

Laura Dols
Also located in the 9 Straatjes (in two locations, Wolvenstraat 6 & 7) you’ll find Laura Dols. A girl’s dress up heaven, the back room and basement of the Wolvenstraat 7 store is packed full of party dresses ranging from the 20s to the 90s, not to mention an impressive collection of wedding dresses, just in case you find yourself in a shotgun wedding esque scenario. Back upstairs you’ll find a whole range of ladies clothing spanning 5 decades of fashion, whilst across the street get lost in their fabulous collection of coats and jackets.

Wini Vintage
Wini’s has a bit of an everything and anything kind of vibe, with items dating back to as far as the 1800’s. From cute party dresses to 60’s ski trousers, the shop is a total eclectic mix. Gents, you’re also catered for here with items ranging from 50’s style polo shirts to flared jeans (well they are back in fashion…). Slightly pricier but worth a trip, pay Wini’s a visit on Haarlemmerstraat 29.

Zipper
‘Style-surf through time’ is how they position themselves and with clothes and accessories dating back to the 1950’s, we’d have to agree. Located in two spots over the city, one on Huidenstraat 7 and the other in the 9 Straatjes on Hoogstraat 8, Zipper has a fabulous range of men’s and women’s vintage offerings. Not only this, they also recycle clothing to make their own designs under house label Ultra Zipper.

1953 Retro & Chic
If nothing else, this place offers a lesson in fashion history with clothes dating from 1800 all the way through to 1980.Small on the outside but brimming with treasures on the inside, explore rails upon rails of dresses, shoes, hats, bags, powder boxes and antiques, with men’s items all downstairs. Located on Staalstraat 2, this is the ideal place to play dress up on a rainy afternoon.
