In today’s episode of ‘navigating the baffling world of wellness’, wine baths (dubbed 'Vinotherapy’) is now a thing...
At some point in our lives, we’ve all professed our love of wine by announcing that we’d literally bathe in it if we could. The good news is now you can, courtesy of Britain’s first Vinotherapy spa, Ella Di Rocco in London’s cosmopolitan borough of Chelsea.
The mother-daughter-duo masterminds behind Ella Di Rocco have decked the spa out with its very own wine bath, as well as some hella luxe interiors, featuring dark plums and greens to compliment the wine therapy itself.
Ever wondered what it would be like to have a Red Wine Bath? You can now try the full Wine Therapy experience at Ella Di Rocco! What better way to relax and unwind with this cold weather? ? While it has all the qualities of a cutting-edge modern wellness trend (‘grammable, unusual, alcohol somehow involved), Vinotherapy has been around for a while. So who do we have to thank for this genius creation? That would be the same founders of skincare brand Caudalie, Mathilde and Bertrand Thomas, who came up with the treatment in 1995.
Vinotherapy became an instant hit, and is widely practised in France and Italy today – but also in places like Japan and Argentina, where Vinotherapy is more of a novelty than a salient wellness practice.
Ok, we know we had you at ‘wine bath’, but what are the actual benefits? When it comes to Vinotherapy, It’s all about the antioxidants.
We’ve all heard the rumours about a glass of red wine a day being good for you (I mean, the Romans were pretty healthy right?) but a red wine bath claims to improve circulation, slow down ageing and detoxify the skin from pollution – which is a pretty huge tick for us Londoners. Above all, just like a glass of wine, a wine bath is said to significantly reduce stress.
Vinotherapy itself isn’t just stripping down to your bikini and climbing into a literal bath full of 1998 Merlot – although that’s pretty much my idea of the perfect Friday night. As well as organic red wine, the bath also includes table wine solution, virgin grape juice, grape protein and hot water, giving it an utterly delightful smell. You won’t get drunk from wine absorption through the skin, but the complimentary glass of vino you receive while getting the treatment should do the trick.
Following the bath is a massage with white wine oils for optimal relaxation. I mean, could you ever imagine anything so heavenly?
The treatment costs a pretty penny, but it’s certainly worth considering. We’ll never look at a bottle of red wine the same way…
