GOT-heads, unite! Finland has debuted its very own Game of Thrones themed ice hotel complete with white walkers statues, dragon themed slides and of course, a decadent ice bar fit for the (night) king himself. Or in other words, all the ingredients you’ll need to live out your own Westerosian fantasy…
Lapland hotels has collaborated with HBO, the producers of the series, to bring us the worlds first ever GOT themed ice hotel and let me tell you, it’s everything you could’ve dreamed of and more. This one of a kind hotel is a mere one and a half hours flight from Helsinki, next to the village of Ylläs. The hotel itself is part of a snow village which spans 20,000 metres and includes the hotel itself, a bar and a restaurant. Superfans can even carry out their nuptials in its snowy surroundings (most atmospheric wedding ever?)
Everything in the ice hotel is made of snow and ice, from the beds to the decadently carved reconstruction of the Braavosi Hall of Faces. There’s even one bedroom that features a towering white walker carved menacingly over the bed, if you’re feeling extra brave. Touring around the hotel you can also expect to find an icy Iron Throne, and best of all – a dragon-themed ice slide. That’s one way to make your commute to the breakfast buffet a little more fun…

If wandering around the hotel and simply gawking at the intricacy of the decor isn’t quite GOT-y enough for you, the hotel even has its very own screening room for catch-up episodes of the show itself. You can follow your snowy cinema date up with a trip to the hotels ice bar, where drinks are served in ice glasses, and you can get your winter on with some nordic classics for dinner – including reindeer and arctic char.
Activity wise, guests can expect to go husky-sledding, skiing or even get creative with an ice sculpting class. If you’re uber lucky with the time of year, you might even catch a glimpse of the colourful northern lights.
Those who do want to experience this immersive icy paradise will need to get their skates on: summer is coming, and as you can imagine, the hotel cannot withstand even a little heat – even by Nordic standards. If you weren’t already planning a Nordic getaway, now is your chance.
