Incredible Humans

This Californian town just elected their mayor for a 5th term. He’s a golden retriever named Max…

Politics is a murky and disheartening world in 2018, full of emotional divisions and mistrust. The rise of populism across the globe shows that voters are on a misguided hunt for someone to believe in, something they can harness their hopes to as we journey into an increasingly uncertain future.

The world is crying out for a more hopeful, benevolent politics. Politics based upon compassion and leaders who can be trusted to rule with unconditional love.

Step forward Mayor Maximus Mighty-Dog Mueller II…

Max is the proud mayor of a Californian town called Idyllwild, a small, non-incorporated town that for a long time had no mayor at all. Then, in 2012, a remarkable initiative from the Idyllwild Animal rescue and Friends led to the community’s first ever Mayoral election. Local residents were not permitted to nominate themselves, but they were allowed to put forwards their dogs and cats. After careful consideration, the candidate who came out on top was a particularly good boy called Maximus Mighty-Dog Mueller, who was inaugurated onto a one year term, beating off 14 dogs and 2 cats.

And it seems that around these parts, politics is a family business. In 2013, Mueller’s tragic death was felt by all in this tight knit community, but fortunately his son, Maximus Mighty-Dog Mueller II was waiting in the wings. Since then he has enjoyed an unprecedented reign as the proud mayor, and was recently inducted for a 5th successive term.

The key to the mayor’s success? His (human) chief of staff, Phyllis Mueller remarked, ‘his job is to make the world a better place by conveying unconditional love and doing good deeds for others. My role as the chief of staff is to help run the vision of the mayor’s office.’ Yep, Max actually operates from his mayor’s office – a heartwarming mix of humans and political puppers such as Max’s loyal deputies, Mike and Mitzey (also Golden Retrievers, of course).

If nothing else, Max’s mayoral reign has done an incredible job at raising money and awareness for Animal Rescue & Friends, whilst giving the entire world a hopeful vision of a politician we can all truly believe in.
