Attention Insta-lovers! Contiki have launched five stunning new trips to Patagonia and Colombia and 13 revamped trips across Latin America. Now, we’re giving you the lowdown on the most Instagram-worthy hot spots to visit, so you can enjoy a slew of fire emojis and ‘fuego!!!’ comments.
1. Escadaria Selaron – Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
Caption it: I just want you to know, you’re my favourite girl
You may know them from the Snoop Dogg and Pharrell ‘Beautiful’ video, where these colourful steps were prominently featured. Now, you can have your own rap video moment, sitting on one of these vibrant 250 steps. Created by artist Jorge Selaron as a tribute to the Brazilian people, the stairs feature tiles from over 60 countries and took 20 years to be completed.
2. Salar De Uyuni – Potosi, Bolivia
Caption it: All I’m missing is the Tequila and lime
These salt flats are the largest in the world, spanning over 11,000sq km. During the wet season, the flat becomes an enormous Salt Lake that perfectly mirrors the sky. But they’re also a photography hot spot in the dry season, when the hexagon shaped tiles of salt are at their starkest white. The vastness of the flats is perfect for playing with scale in your shots.
3. Ik Kil Cenote – Chichen Itza, Mexico
Caption it: I guess you could say its mer-mazing
While the World Heritage Site is mostly known for its pyramids, the cenotes are the real Instagram pleaser. With a depth of around 40 metres, light filters into the sinkhole from above with vines cascading over the edge, creating an ethereal atmosphere. Perfect for some envy-inducing snaps.
4. Torres Del Paine National Park – Patagonia
Caption it: Where the wild things are (aka me)
Not one for the faint-hearted, this national park is going to make you work for the shot! While the entirety of Torres Del Paine is a stunning backdrop, it’s the view of the towers from Mirador Torres which is the most gram-worthy. Set up here at sunset or sunrise to make the most of all that hard work.
5. Ciudad Perdida – Magdalena, Colombia
Caption it: Started from the bottom now we’re here
Spanish for ‘Lost City’, Ciudad Perdida is the archaeological site of an ancient Colombian city discovered around 650 years before Machu Picchu. Although this one requires a four-day hike to access, the jaw-dropping view from the stone terraces is more than worth it.
6. Machu Picchu – Peru
Caption it: Machu Picchu-rself here
Arguably South America’s most-photographed destination, the Incan city of Machu Picchu sits 8,000 feet above ground and its exact former use remains a mystery to this day. Although it was known by locals, its remote location meant that it remained untouched by Spanish invaders and therefore is impeccably preserved. Take your photo overlooking the terraces or go the extra mile and make your way up Huayna Picchu to capture the entirety of this bucket list beauty.
7. Caye Caulker – Belize
Caption it: I’m not late, I’m on island time.
Sit back and soak up the island vibes on this stunning island in the Caribbean Sea. With crystal-clear waters, golden-sand beaches and cute-as-a-button pastel buildings, you’ll be spoilt for choice on Caye Caulker. One of the most unique features of this island is that there are no cars – the only traffic sign on the island recommends cyclists “go slow”.
