What to see in London if you’re all about musical theatre

Girls at London's west end

Whether it‘s your first time in London or you’re a seasoned pro, no trip is complete without a West End Show (or five, if you’re like me!)

Here’s your ultimate guide to selecting the perfect show to round off your London extravaganza…

For First Time theatre Go-ers

For theatre novices out there, there’s no better place to start than with a classic. For a show that ticks all the boxes – beautiful theatres, amazing sets, powerful ballads and of course a love story – then you can’t go wrong with The Phantom of the Opera or Wicked. They truly have it all. If you are looking for a bit of mystery, see if you can figure out who did it before the detective does in the West End’s longest-running show The Mousetrap.

For Your Inner Child

Sometimes we all have days when we wish we could forget our worries and be a kid again. If you are in the mood to let your inner child out, then why not see one of your favorite childhood stories come to life in front of your eyes? For anyone who was a Disney kid then you can’t beat the magic of Aladdin or The Lion King. Or for those bookworms out there, why not watch some rebellious children take on the Trunchbull in Matilda.

For the Theatre Pro

If you’re a seasoned theatre pro, then the revival of old classics always have something new for you. Every producer loves to put his or her own flare into a revival so it is never quite the show you have seen before. Dreamgirls is not to be missed – when Amber Riley belts out “And I am telling you I’m not going” there is barely a dry eye in the house.

For those who want something new

Two of the hottest tickets in town are Harry Potter and the Curse Child and the soon to open Hamilton. These shows are not to be missed – but tickets are hard to come by. If you want to get your hands on one of these golden tickets, you can try your luck at the weekly ticket draws. You never know – you might just end up being the envy of all your friends…

For Everybody and Anybody

There are plenty of people out there who say they don’t like theatre. Well, I have news for you: there is really a show for everyone in the West End. The Book of Mormon never fails to impress: witty and politically incorrect, I challenge you not to laugh pretty much the whole way through. Alternatively, for the Michel Jackson fans out there, try not to sing along as they belt out your favorite songs in Thriller Live
