With its picture perfect ski villages, powder-packed runs and stylish après ski scene, there’s little wonder Austria’s Ski Welt is Europe’s top ski resort. But if you need convincing, we’ve compiled 9 reasons why skiing in Austria is just awesome.

1. Powder like this

Corduroy- groomed runs and knee-deep powder off-piste – perfect whether you’re finding your feet or showing off your moves.

2. Runs, runs, runs

With almost 300kms of runs to explore in Ski Welt, you’ll be spoilt for choice. There are loads of easy runs – perfect for beginners, intermediate runs to test your skills, and plenty of black runs to keep even the keenest skiers challenged.

4. Snow-capped villages

Just try not to fall in love with picturesque Hopfgarten, when the snow blankets the chalet-style houses and the streets are lit with twinkling lights. It’s the perfect Tyrolean village.

5. Sleeping in an authentic Austrian gasthof

Among the hills around the stunningly beautiful Hopfgarten village is Contiki’s very own Gasthof Schöneck, an authentic Austrian gasthof (guest house) with a resident cook and a fully-equipped bar.

7. Schnitzel

After a day on the slopes, you’ll be craving hearty Austrian fare like Wiener schnitzel, potato salad and goulash soup. Topped off with a delicious fluffy apple strudel, of course, which is what makes skiing in Austria so awesome.

8. Value for money

Skiing in Austria offers better value than most of the better known European ski resorts, with ski passes, rentals eating and drinking costing less. Which means more strudel for your Stirling, so to speak.

9. Après ski

Let’s be honest. We’re here for the Glühwein (mulled wine) and hot chocolates spiked with schnapps.
