Recently, we sent out our Voice of a Generation survey to our audience of Gen-Zs and Millennials around the globe. 30 questions encompassing all things pop-culture and holiday destinations, and we got a whopping 6,000 answers back! How’s that for gathering worldly knowledge?

We sort of pride ourselves on keeping our big Contiki green finger on the pulse, you see, so we wanted to know everything from travel trends and icks, to famous companions, and freeing financial decisions (perhaps fueled by girl math?).

Human or Robot?

61% of respondents would let AI pick their next holiday destination if they got a 10% discount on transport and accommodation! It seems we’re ushering in the rise of the robots, interesting. But the real question is, when does AI get a holiday? And where would they go? Next survey is coming soon…

Greener pastures abroad

Many of our travellers are feeling those familiar backyard blues. When staring at the same old park or cityscape becomes too much, what do you do? When the daily grind is starting to get you down, where do you go?

54% said they have booked a holiday because they are generally fed up with life at home. 

The cure is a getaway, and it’s clear that fantastical friend-filled escapes are a must for our audience. There’s nothing like glimpsing new horizons and meeting lovely locals to soothe the soul. Lucky for them, there’s plenty of Contikis just waiting to be booked.

Country lovers all around

If you could go travelling with any celebrity, jet-setting across the globe, and living it up on (hopefully) their extravagant budget, who would you choose? 

Well, 394 travellers opted for Taylor Swift and 186 chose Harry Styles – both halves of the current pop monarchy! 

But, in third place was Sir David Attenborough, showing our demo’s love for the great outdoors and the importance of wildlife protection, as well as their love for sweet older men who would undoubtedly fill the trip with fun facts and a few dad jokes.

What would you spend your life savings on?

Out of all the live events happening in 2023, from live music glitzy Coachella and crazy Glastonbury, to epic sporting events that envelop entire cities with cheer and festive flare (literally), over 800 people said they would have spent all their life savings to get a ticket to the elusive Eras Tour!

Not gonna lie, we’re not exactly shocked: the showmanship, the alluring sparkle of the costumes, the decades old set list! It’s one that’ll be talked about for years to come. But even Tomorrowland, world-famous and iconic, in second place, only got half the nominations! The power of TayTay is unreal.

Slow and steady wins the race to green

70% of travellers said they would choose to take a coach with other people over taking a flight if it was better for the environment! It may be slower, but it’s about the journey to get there, and many long-standing international friendships have been formed on the back of a Contiki coach.

Work hard, play harder

Turns out our community is full of some independent, busy, busy bees! 95% of respondents said they fund their holiday/travel through work. We respect the hell out of that and you’ve earned your mind-boggling break abroad. As we Gen-Zs say, slay!

Don’t believe everything you see on TV. Or should you?

Ever been watching a movie, nodding off slightly, and starting to dream of the background setting? Imagining yourself frolicking through the rolling hills of The Sound of Music or running along the pristine beaches of Baywatch. You’re probably not the only one. 

Turns out, 65% of our respondents have been inspired to travel to a destination because of a film they’ve seen. Some culprits include the Italian romance Call Me By Your Name, the iconic ABBA musical set on the Greek isles, Mamma Mia, and of course Harry Potter inspiring many to travel to the dramatic scenery of Scotland.

54% were inspired by TV shows (Game of Thrones and Emily in Paris are to blame), 20% were inspired by songs and musical artists, and a small but solid 10% by video games! Can you guess which one specifically? Assassin’s Creed!

65% of people have been inspired to go to a destination because of a film they have seen featuring the voice of a generation.
