David Attenborough: Not The Glastonbury Headliner You Expected But The One You Won’t Forget

Whilst he may not have arrived in an outfit custom designed by Banksy as grime star Stormzy did, or made headlines like teenager Alex who somewhat upstaged rapper Dave after being invited from the crowd up on stage only to rap the complex tune Thiago Silva with absolute precision (definitely worth a youtube watch if you haven’t seen it already!), the crown for the most unforgettable Glastonbury moment has to go to Sir David Attenborough.

Undoubtedly, the reason why Attenborough’s surprise appearance was so unforgettable for us was not just due to the vast crowds of adoring fans which flooded to the main stage to catch a glimpse of the living legend, but due to his critically unforgettable message: plastic has had a devastating effect on the ocean and it’s our responsibility to reverse the crisis before it’s too late.

The world renowned environmentalist praised the festival for going plastic free this year. Whilst in previous years Glastonbury has become infamous for the mountain of rubbish left behind by the music lovers, this year the organisers hit back at this image by banning single use plastic bottles.

This is a huge step forward for sustainability at music festivals in the UK, and we can only hope that other festivals follow suit. Lets face it, if you can get (King) David Attenborough to praise your festival, you must be doing something right!
