36 years after Tim Burton’s first Beetlejuice film we have Beetlejuice Beetlejuice – I’m scared to think what will happen if a third one comes out… – a sequel to everyone’s favourite whimsical and strange demon movie starring Michael Keaton!
Lovers of gothic horror and twisty tales are in for a treat as you’ll be glad to know the Beetlejuice filming locations are actual places, not only sets, and you can visit them in real life! Just please promise you won’t summon any nefarious beings into existence.
So, if the burning question on your mind is ‘where was Beetlejuice 2 filmed’ then let’s dive into the real places where the two movies were filmed.
Beetlejuice filming locations
Vermont
Beetlejuice takes place in the fictional town of Winter River, Connecticut, but the real location is East Corinth in the New England state of Vermont! This small town only has about 1,500 residents, and the fame of the Beetlejuice franchise has put it on the map.
Many of the exteriors used in shots in the film were of real buildings in East Corinth – for example an old Masonic lodge was used as a school, and a general store became Maitland Hardware Store – and many other shop storefronts were given a makeover to fit Burton’s unique aesthetic.
The iconic Deetz house however is a set and the whole exterior was built on a hill in East Corinth, which unfortunately doesn’t exist today.
California
Most of the interiors in Beetlejuice were filmed on sets at the Culver City studios in California to bring Tim Burton’s creepy visions to life.

Returning to East Corinth was a bit of a mystery for the production crew as most of them had not returned for 36 years, so there was no telling what the town would be like. Thankfully, everything was still perfect for the return, so the town was included once again in the Beetlejuice filming locations allowing for an authentic sequel.
The Deetz house was built again, just in time for Lydia Deetz (played by the always iconic Winona Rider) to make her big comeback.
Massachusetts
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Beetlejuice 2’s production had to be taken elsewhere. Additional exterior shots in Beetlejuice were shot in Melrose, Massachusetts (near Boston), specifically the movie’s Halloween sequences – which is great because New England and Massachusetts’ history really lends itself to that spooky eerie vibe.
England
The Beetlejuice filming locations extend across the pond in Beetlejuice 2, for more scenes that revolve around Jenna Ortega’s character Astrid. Side note, Jenna Ortega has been in two gothic masterpieces – Wednesday is the other – and we’re obsessed with this niche!
A closed boarding school called Princess Helena College was used as a stand in for Astrid’s school, and the cast and crew also find themselves in Hertfordshire for a wedding scene!
The main reason shooting was brought to England, however, was for the use of London studios for interior scenes amid uncertainty around the SAG AFTRA strikes happening in 2023 around production’s time. Leavesden Studios were used, which are the same as those used for scenes in Harry Potter!
Hellfire Caves in West Wycombe were also used as a Beetlejuice filming location for a funeral scene, and the name is appropriately haunting, and West Wickham in London was used as a cemetery where a church was built!
