There are many words you could use to describe the Iron Throne, but inconspicuous isn’t one of them. Famously forged from dragonfire and the swords of thousands of Aegon the Conqueror’s slain enemies, it cuts those who sit on it for too long, a reminder that when people on this show gain power, they shouldn’t get too comfy.
So multiple Iron Thrones might seem like strange things to try and hide as part of a treasure hunt. Well, hold onto your hats, because that’s exactly what HBO has done, scattering 14 exact replicas of the infamous throne across the world. With the hashtag #ForTheThrone, they’re challenging fans and adventurers to be the first to find a throne and receive their very own crown in return.
The first throne was recovered by two men in the ancient English forest of puzzlewood. They were duly crowned kings of the children of the forest, but their crown seems to be a beautiful replica of the one worn by Robert Baratheon in the first season.

And now, the clue for the second throne’s location has been revealed. ‘The next one is in the north.’ Along with this captivating statement, HBO has released a video, displaying the brutalist throne sitting in gently falling snow in a stunning whitewashed landscape. It’s definitely north then, but where?
Rumours are suggesting Iceland – one of the show’s more prominent filming locations – but realistically it could be so many frosty landscapes in the Northern Hemisphere that this one will probably prove tougher to find. But if you’ve always wanted to be the King (or queen) in the North, here’s your best chance. So call the banners and get marching…
