Western Australia is the country’s biggest state, but it’s often overlooked when it comes to exciting holidays. As more Australians look to travelling locally, the good news is there are so many things to do in Perth and throughout WA that you may have overlooked! Here are 5 of our top picks…
1. Visit Rottnest Island
Rottnest Island is just a short ferry trip off the coast of Perth and it’s full of fun things to do. Try snorkelling, stand up paddleboarding, golf, a trip to the beach, walking trails, and more. You can stay on the island, or just head out for a day trip before catching the ferry back to the city. Rottnest Island is all about experiencing the simple pleasures in life like soaking in the sun on a boat and letting your worries float away. If that’s what you need on your next holiday, you won’t want to overlook Rottnest Island.
2. Taste the local seafood
Perth is a bustling city like any other, and that means just wandering through the CBD you’ll come across the coolest places to grab a bite. Perth is full of great restaurants, from the high-class multi-course venues to cute hole-in-the-wall spots. Perth is known for its great coastline, so if you like seafood, there’s plenty of it too – you MUST order a fish platter on the waterfront in Fremantle.

3. Head to the beach
We wouldn’t mention the great coast without getting specific. A trip to the beach is one of the best things to do in Perth. If you’re in Perth in the warmer months, you can take a dip in the clear blue waters and if you’re there in the colder months a simple walk along the beach looking out over the ocean is an afternoon well spent. Some of the most-loved Perth beaches include Scarborough beach, City Beach, Port Beach, Cottesloe Beach, Sorrento Beach and Coogee beach, and there are still plenty more for you to discover on your Perth holiday.

4. Visit the Bell Tower
The Bell Tower is home to the Swan Bells, a set of 18 bells that hang in a specially built 82.5-meter-high tower. The tower is made of glass and copper and is a sight to behold. Visit the tower and get an inside perspective of this impressive building. The tower and the bells have an impressive history, some of the bells claiming a heritage all the way back to the 14th century. However part of the exterior has been remodelled, blending the old and new in this historic and modern city.
5. Go shopping at Hay Street Mall
Specialty stores you might not find elsewhere, and big brands come together in the Hay Street Mall in Perth. The mall runs between Barrack street and William street and is a great opportunity to get some fresh air and sun while you shop.
