Planning a ski trip this winter? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. From ski gear to merino wool base layers, we’re here to help you get organised and provide you with a ski trip packing checklist. Because packing for a ski trip can be stressful, this list covers all of the ski essentials you’ll need for your next winter vacation.
1. Ski gear
If you’re packing for a ski trip, these items are a MUST. Of course, you’ll be packing your skis, poles, and maybe even a snowboard for your trip. But you also won’t want to forget some other important ski gear items like a ski helmet and ski goggles to keep you safe on the slopes.

2. Waterproof items
Pack a waterproof jacket, waterproof ski pants, waterproof gloves, ski socks, and ski boots. These items will not only show your personality on the slopes but help you to keep warm in the cold weather outdoors. Nail that ski outfit, bestie!
3. Base layers
Base layers are a great way to keep warm and dry while on the go! They can be made of merino wool or synthetic fabrics, which are great options for retaining the best heat. Using base layers while skiing will help prevent you from getting chills or sweating while you’re moving. Avoid items made of cotton as they tend to absorb moisture from snow and sweat, making you cold.

4. Warm regular clothing
Once you’re off the slopes, you’ll want to change into some non-ski clothing. Packing regular clothing is important to remember for walking around the ski resort. You’ll want to bring a warm jacket, snow boots, shirts, and jeans/pants, which can all be used while grabbing après-ski drinks. Don’t forget a scarf/neck warmer, mittens/gloves, and hat/beanie to keep everything warm and covered up.
5. Swimsuit or trunks
Some of the best ski resorts offer some killer spa services or Scandinavian hot springs (or onsens if you’re skiing in Japan!). So, it may be a good idea to pack a swimsuit or swim trunks to let your muscles soak in the hot springs. It’s the perfect way to enjoy yourself and relax after a long day on the slopes.

6. Lip balm
Dry lips? On the slopes? No, thank you. That’s why a lip balm is an absolute essential on your ski trip packing list. Remember to use one with SPF in it to prevent your lips from chapping and protect them from the sun.
7. Sunglasses
On sunny days, the slopes can be very bright from strong rays reflecting off the snow. Although ski goggles will protect your eyes while on the slopes, once you take them off the sun can be blinding. Pull out your favorite pair of shades to help your eyes adjust.

8. Small first aid kit
If it’s your first-time skiing, you may want to prepare yourself for the unexpected. Having a small first aid kit is essential for any ski adventure. Bring some band-aids, painkillers, and some non-steroid anti-inflammatory treatment like Voltaren. This way, you can worry less and have more fun. Although most resorts have one on hand, it’s good to add to your own ski trip packing list too.
9. Ski equipment and ski bag
Transporting your skis can be tricky, so a ski bag is an absolute lifesaver. Not only does it keep your skis and poles organized, but it also protects them from damage while traveling. Also, make sure to double-check that all your ski equipment fits snugly, and don’t forget your lift ticket – you don’t want to be stuck at the base of the mountain without it!

10. Winter accessories and toe warmers
Cold feet? Not on this trip. Toe warmers are one of the best investments for keeping your feet toasty all day. Pair them with your waterproof boots and thick socks for maximum comfort. While you’re at it, ensure your winter jacket has plenty of pockets to store small items like (your phone, cards and IDs) which are crucial for peace of mind on the slopes.
Want expert advice
We asked Contiki Trip Manager, Lauren Hughes, what she thinks are a must-have on a ski packing list. Here’s what she said:
“You’ll need thermal layers, a waterproof jacket, trousers and super cosy ski socks – cold toes are no joke on the slopes. Grab a helmet (safety first) and goggles to see when it’s snowing or rent them, if you prefer. Make sure to pack warm gloves.”
“Suncream might seem like a random choice, but the snow reflects the UV rays! Oh, and stash a water bottle and snacks in your bag, along with your ski pass and travel insurance info.”
And finally…
