The term ‘squad’ is thrown around pretty loosely nowadays, but we think there should be a special place in history for the groups who out-squaded them all. We can’t all be the squadliest, but here are eight epic groups that will define #squadgoals for all eternity:
The Rat Pack
All things considered, you can’t find a cooler squad than the Rat Pack, hands down. Their crew was so stacked, that it’s hard to believe any room could actually be large enough to hold all that ego and star power.
Although the members changed throughout the ’50s and ’60s, the Pack was always made up of THE coolest players in Hollywood, including the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Humphrey Bogart, with guest appearances by the likes of Judy Garland and Marilyn Monroe. They ran Hollywood, made some amazing films, got up to epic shenanigans and did it all with infinite swagger. True legends.
The Brat Pack
The ’80s were a legendary time for teen-films, and the Brat Pack were the staples in all of our fave flicks and the source of many-a bedroom wall poster and childhood crush. With classic roles in The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire, young actors and actresses such as Molly Ringwald, Rob Lowe and Demi Moore took over Hollywood, became instant heartthrobs and solidified their place as one of the coolest actor squads in history. Combine their epic films with the scandals that occurred in their personal lives and it’s easy to see why the Brat Pack left quite a legacy for the young actors who followed.
The Kennedy family has created a true dynasty in America. With a strong lineage of excellence including Harvard educations, a President, Senators, wealth and elegance, the family continues to be just about as close to royalty as you can get in the USA.
From the legacy of JFK and elegance of Jackie O, to the philanthropic work of former first lady of California Maria Shriver, the Kennedys continue to be a household name while remaining well-respected for their positive contributions to American society as a whole.
Washington, Roosevelt, Lincoln and Jefferson
Their faces are carved into the side of a mountain – can you get any cooler than that? If that isn’t the ultimate #squadgoals, we don’t know what is. Regardless of the fact that they weren’t a real life squad, and served separate presidential terms between 1789 and 1909, these four U.S. presidents were selected for their achievements in bringing democracy, freedom and national preservation to the country. No biggie…
The Fab Four, aka the boy band of all boy bands, will forever be the raddest foursome we know. The constant and mysterious trending topics of 1D have absolutely nothing on Beatlemania, and there’s a lot to be said about the quality of music as well.
The Beatles pretty much took over the world in the ’60s, and are still the best-selling artists of all time. Plus, they were ALL crazy-talented, which is a lot more than can be said about some (most) groups…
Jordan and Pippen
Michael Jordan may be unanimously known as the greatest basketball player of all time, but his teammate and bud Scottie Pippen was an essential partner for him during his magical years the with Chicago Bulls and their 6 NBA Championships. Chances are that if you zoom out on any famous Jordan photo, you’ll see Pippen close by, making that essential pass and being the yin to MJ’s yang.
Pip was a phenomenal player in his own right, but when his mad skills were matched up with Jordan, the Chicago Bulls became the most legendary team in NBA history for their accomplishments in the ’90s.
The Von Trapps
The Von Trapps were the Kardashians before there were Kardashians, Instagram filters and TVs. As a family of 10 super-talented kids, the Trapp Family Singers of Austria toured the world and inspired the classic film The Sound of Music.
The Microsoft Execs
Oh, the infamous Windows 95 launch event… have you ever seen a tech product launch like this in your life? Regardless of the fact that they revolutionized the technology world and brought us personal computing, the ‘Start’ button, Windows OS, Word and Excel, Bill Gates and the Microsoft crew get mad props for this launch party alone.
What we wouldn’t give to have been wildin’ out on that stage in 1995…
(Honourable mentions go out to: Spice Girls and the BSB, The Golden Girls and the Jackson 5 as well.)
What’s your favourite squad of all-time?
Regardless of what type of squad you’ve got, life’s great experiences are made better by the people you share them with.
