Oh, Maldives. You’re beautiful. You’re luxurious. You’re exotic. You’re sun-kissed perfection. But… you’re not the only one. Sorry! All I’m saying is that our planet is studded with beaches that are beaming with natural beauty. So, if you’re looking for a beach trip, and wanna explore places other than this tropical paradise, we’ve got a list of the 10 best Maldives alternatives. Some are secluded, some are more affordable, and some are (basically) exactly like the Maldives. So, pack your sunscreen and grab your flip-flops, we’re diving deep into destinations that’ll give you the same island vibes.
1. Koh Phi Phi, Thailand
Thailand’s already popular for being one of the best Maldives alternatives. There are so many islands to choose from. But Koh Phi Phi definitely stands out as the one of the best Maldives alternatives. Where else in the world can you combine the experience of having hidden caves where you can swim in emerald lagoons AND indulging in luscious, flavour-packed Thai food? This must be what heaven is like…

2. Seychelles
What comes to mind when you think of tropical paradise? Pristine white sand beaches. Stunning coral reefs. Turquoise waters. Luxurious overwater bungalows. Well, Seychelles has all of that and more. Whether you wanna spend your days snorkelling among the colourful marine life, or just wanna sip pina coladas as you soak in the sunshine – these islands should be your go-to (especially if you’re looking for cheaper alternatives to the Maldives). Plus, you’ll find the iconic Aldabra tortoises, Coco de Mar trees and – well, I have to say it – seashells.
3. Palawan Island, Philippines
The epic Palawan Island is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Think: jaw-dropping limestone cliffs, crystal-clear lagoons, and sprawling white-sand beaches. The Palawan Island offers something that you won’t easily find on the Maldives: history and jungles. Yep. You’ll have the chance to explore a WWII shipwreck in Coron, and even trek through the lush greenery in El Nido (that are home to oh-so-inviting waterfalls). Plus, there’s Nacpan Beach with all its raw natural beauty. Philippines Island Hopping anyone? Because it’s going on my bucket list for sure.

4. Himarë, Albania
Speaking of unexpected hidden gems, here’s another one. Albania’s Ionian coast offers hidden coves, rugged coastlines and ofc, crystal-clear waters. If you wanna escape the typical crowds and spend your time lounging on secluded beaches, exploring ancient ruins or just hiking through scenic landscapes, Himarë is the paradise you’re looking for. Plus, the fresh seafood at the local Albanian tavernas is heavenly too. The best part? It won’t cost you an arm and a leg.
5. Lakshadweep, India
Want the same natural beauty of the Maldives, but not the crazy crowds? Here’s the best Maldives alternative that you might think is a bit unexpected – India. Just off the western coast of India is a remote archipelago known for its untouched beauty. Most of these islands are uninhabited by people and very much habited by coconut palms and vibrant coral gardens. A sunset cruise to witness the breathtaking beauty of the Indian Ocean? Now that might just be the most perfect way to finish up a trip to India.

6. Whitsundays, Australia
Welcome to the place that’s home to the best beach in the world. Yep. Whitehaven Beach was voted to win that title a few years ago, and righly so. There’s nothing quite like sailing through the azure waters, stopping at secluded coves and being stunned by the incredible beauty as your toes sink into the soft silica sand (like we do on our Beaches and Reefs trip!). Not to mention, there’s plenty of opportunity for you to surf, sail, dive and snorkel too. I mean, if you’re gonna learn to do any of it, you might as well do so in the Great Barrier Reef, right?
7. Turks and Caicos Islands
Let’s leave Asia for a minute and take a trip to the Caribbean shall we? The Turks and Caicos Islands are the epitome of luxury with its upscale beach resorts, aquamarine waters and soft white-sand beaches. These islands are perfect if you’re closer to the West, and wanna escape the hustle bustle of everyday life. And if you love whales – these beaches are famous for being an annual Humpback whale migration site. Best Maldives alternative in the Americas? Quite possibly.

8. Bora Bora
Imagine this: vacationing in an overwater villa, waking up to turquoise ocean views, sipping refreshing cocktails, indulging in romantic dinner, pampering yourself with a spa day, swimming in a private pool. I’m sold already. Bora Bora is just a small part of the French Polyneisan islands but it sure does pack a punch. If you’re looking for some extra exploration, you need to check out the EPIC views of Mount Otemanu. You’ll feel like you’re Moana.
9. Crete, Greece
If Asia’s got the Maldives, Europe’s got Crete – Greece’s largest island. Of course, there are stunning beaches here. You’ll also find charming seaside villages, rocky cliffs, bustling markets, olive groves and Greek tavernas serving up the freshest food. Oh, and there’s also an over 150-year-old lighthouse that you can check out. All in all – it’s a typical Greek experience – beautiful beaches, delicious food, show-stopping views and just the right amount of history. Just book your Greece trip already…
